Screen Yorkshire – Driving Regional Growth

Screen Yorkshire was established in 2002 as an organisation dedicated to nurturing and developing film, television, and games across Yorkshire and the Humber.

But how much do you really know about us? We play a pivotal role in transforming the region into a vibrant hub for the screen industries. Our efforts have been instrumental in attracting major productions, fostering local talent, and stimulating economic growth.

In this article we look at some of the activity that has powered Yorkshire’s screen industries success story.

One of Screen Yorkshire’s key programs is the Yorkshire Content Fund, a programme aimed at supporting content production and enhancing the region’s appeal to filmmakers and producers. This initiative has successfully attracted high-profile productions, including television programmes like “All Creatures Great and Small” and “Peaky Blinders,” and films such as “Dad’s Army” and “Official Secrets”.  Our funding incentives drive significant regional investment and provide critical employment opportunities for our local freelance communities.

In addition to funding, Screen Yorkshire offers production services support to both home-grown productions and  large scale international feature films like “Mission Impossible 7 ” and “Indiana Jones V”. These services include location scouting, crew and talent sourcing, and logistical support, ensuring productions that chose to shoot in Yorkshire run smoothly and efficiently. The agency’s extensive database of locations and in-house professionals is a valuable resource for producers looking to capitalise on our diverse landscapes and rich cultural heritage.

The region’s skilled and vibrant workforce has helped secure our reputation as a premier destination for screen production.  Screen Yorkshire is committed to developing local talent through its skills programmes, providing  training and development opportunities for individuals at various stages of their careers, from entry-level to experienced professionals.

One of our longest running  programmes is  Beyond Brontes: The Mayor’s Screen Diversity Programme, which has supported hundreds of new entrants looking to break into the film industry.   Our Connected Campus programme builds closer links between TV and Film professionals, production companies, broadcasters and the students trying to break into this competitive industry through education institutions.

Screen Yorkshire’s multifaceted approach to funding, production support, talent development, and international promotion has ensured that the screen industries are thriving in Yorkshire and Humber, making it a key player in the UK’s creative sector.
