Charanprite Dhami, Floor Runner and Assistant Director

What do you love about working in Yorkshire? What makes it different to filming in other regions?

Yorkshire really has everything: Brontë County, the cosmopolitan feel of Leeds and the old worldliness of York. Then there’s Whitby and Scarborough for the beaches and the industrial heritage of Halifax and Bradford. The studios in Leeds are a welcomed addition, and sound will be very happy with it!

The crew here are friendly with that Yorkshire charm and we can switch from making TV to movies with ease. We also have the best cuppa in the country with our own Yorkshire Tea, and no coffee is as refreshing as Taylors of Harrogate, what more can you ask for!

What was your path into film and TV?

I got in to the industry via the charity Creative Access as a Production Trainee on God’s Own Country, I later switched to the Assistant Directing department.

What are some recent projects that you've worked on in Yorkshire?

In terms of TV, I’ve worked on Last Tango in Halifax and Ackley Bridge, seasons two and three. I have also worked on the upcoming film Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.

Tell us about any particular highlights during your career in the industry?

When I worked on Everybody’s Talking About Jamie. It was a dream of mine to work for Warp and a Hollywood studio. It was exciting to meet crew that worked on Hollywood films and I couldn’t believe they were in Sheffield. I learned loads and meet some wonderful people.

Do you have any advice for people starting out in the industry?

Be patient and persistent. Work hard, be helpful and positive. The hours are long but you are doing a job that others dream about. Smiling and being jolly helps a lot. We are storytellers, inspiring lives and giving people hope that they too can achieve their dreams.

How do you think the production landscape has changed in the region over the past 5 years?

More productions are being filmed here and the facilities have improved to accommodate their needs. Also Screen Yorkshire’s putting together of a crew database, which will give London based heads of departments a better access to Yorkshire crews that they may not have been aware of.
