The Richard Whiteley Memorial Bursary
Channel 4, in conjunction with Screen Yorkshire, are pleased to announce that the TV Researcher Training Programme in honour of Countdown presenter, the late Richard Whiteley, will be accepting applications for its second year until 19th May 2008.
NORTHERN ROUTES - MEET THE TRAINEES
Competition has been fierce for the Northern Routes Training Scheme, with almost 500 applications received for just 22 places. The level of submissions was high, with all applicants hoping for a chance to get invaluable hands on experience through a range of placement opportunities with award winning television programme makers across the North of England.
Short Film Funding
Short films are a vital stepping stone for emerging filmmakers to build their knowledge and experience. Screen Yorkshire currently runs three schemes for short filmmakers: The Digital Shorts scheme, Movies and Digital Shorts Plus.
Script Reading Service
Screen Yorkshire is now offering a professional script reading service to companies and individuals in the Yorkshire and Humber region. This service is available for feature film scripts, television projects and detailed treatments.

Screen Yorkshire keeps an actors database which is used by filmmakers that we work with. Please note you must have had some experience acting, as this is not an extras database.
Spark
Our Spark scriptwriting scheme is for new and emerging writers with demonstrable commitment and a passionate desire to develop a screenwriting career. Spark provides talented screenwriters with the opportunity to develop their skills and originate marketable projects that have broad appeal.
Call For Entries: Commissioning Editors Workshop for Documentaries
The Scottish Documentary Institute presents the annual Commissioning Editors Workshop 2008 which will run over 3 days alongside Edinburgh International Film Festival (18-29 June 2008). The pitching forum will take place on 19 June in Edinburgh's Traverse Theatre, followed by one-on-one meetings with industry experts.The workshop is open to all filmmakers based in the UK, and is aimed at independent filmmakers trying to get a TV commission and thinking about international co-productions.

The 2008 UK Film Council Short Film Completion Fund
Producers or production companies are now invited to send a rough cut of their unfinished short film to Maya Vision International, along with a completed application form. If you don't have a rough cut by then, don't worry as the Completion Fund has expanded to 2 calls per year allowing up to 14 short films to be completed under the scheme each year. The next call, 2009/I, is scheduled to open in September 2008, but full details to follow in due course.

BBC Drama Writers Academy
The next generation of TV writers are being sought by the BBC for its Drama Writers Academy, guaranteeing budding scribes the opportunity to work on primetime shows. Call for entries for the 2008 edition of exposures - the UK's leading competitive festival for student film and moving image - is now open.
