Short film My Dangerous Loverboy has begun shooting in Sheffield and   is the brainchild of Sheffield based director Virginia Heath, specifically dealing with the internal trafficking of young girls around the UK.

SCREEN YORKSHIRE RECEIVES FUNDING BOOST FOR FILM IN REGIONS FROM UK FILM COUNCIL (09/04/2008)

Yorkshire's film industry is set to get a boost from a share of £18 million to be invested by The UK Film Council over the next two years in the English regions. The Regional Investment Fund for England (RIFE) money will enable Screen Yorkshire to continue to deliver on its objectives of developing film economies and culture in the region including education initiatives, exhibition, locations support, production and development, as well as training and vocational education.

True North Presents ‘Sunday Life’ on BBC 1 from 20 April, 10 am (11/04/2008)

True North's brand new series Sunday Life starts on BBC One on Sunday 20th April at 10am. Sunday Life will be broadcast live from a converted Victorian mill near Bradford. Former Olympic athlete Colin Jackson CBE and BBC News presenter Louise Minchin will host the show. Screen Yorkshire played a key role in helping True North win the prestigious commission with the BBC last year.

Mediabox - funding application round for 2008 open! (01/04/2008)

Mediabox, the Department for Children, Schools and Families fund which offers 13-19 year olds the opportunity to develop and produce media projects has announced its new funding rounds for 2008/09. To date, Mediabox has funded 234 projects, giving out almost £4.5 million in funding.

Screenhouse Productions pick up second international award (16/04/2008)

Leeds based Screenhouse productions has picked up its second international award for their moving film, "The Hidden Children", transmitted as part of the BBC 2 History series Timewatch. The film picked up the Gold Award in the History Documentary category at the World Media Festival in Hamburg.

Game Republic Academy

Foo Fighters by Code Monkeys Screen Yorkshire has funded and launched the UK's first games academy - the Game Republic Academy - and sees this as a major development for the region in line with Skillset's National Skills Strategy. With an investment of £100k, this new project will bring together the best talent in industry and academia. In its first year the academy will offer bursaries and industrial placements to students on MSc courses. Universities from Bradford, York and Hull are all part of the Game Republic Academy.
