Game Republic Student Showcase 2009Tuesday 5th May 2009, Sheffield Hallam University

The Game Republic Student Showcase is a yearly event that gives all final-year and postgraduate games students from Yorkshire and Humber a fantastic opportunity to put their coursework in front of the region's games companies - and hopefully win a prize.

The Student Showcase 2009 was held on Tuesday 5th May at Sheffield Hallam University, and featured over 70 students and 23 projects. Four Yorkshire games companies -Sumo Digital, Tuna, Team 17 and Rockstar Leeds - sponsored the awards, which featured prizes for Game Technology, Game Art, Game Design and Best Team.

In addition, the winners of the Best Team award - the Full Scale War team from the University of Huddersfield - were given a work placement at Rockstar Leeds.

As well as the day event, there was a Game Republic networking event from 6pm that featured the prize-giving, a panel entitled "Digital distribution - the end of the traditional publisher?" and refreshments.
