Get In The Game - Winner announced!
Yorkshire digital company Grand Midwinter has won a £10,000 Screen Yorkshire investment as part of the Get in the Game pitching scheme for its "trash TV" game idea Rough Diamond.
Get in the Game is a pitching scheme run in association with Screen Yorkshire, Pixel-Lab and North West Vision & Media that enables companies across the north to pitch game ideas to Sony's Studio Liverpool for PlayStation 3 and PSP.
The best Yorkshire & Humber games pitch from the recent event in Liverpool on December 2nd was judged to be Grant Midwinter's Rough Diamond, a "Jerry Springer/Jeremy Kyle"-style PS3 game that mixes Pokemon-style gameplay with comic book voyeuristic fighting.
As well as the £10,000 investment, Grant Midwinter will now receive special help and guidance from Game Republic and Sony to produce a prototype of their game, before finally pitching the idea again in March 2010 in a bid to receive a full game commission from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.
"The GITG scheme has helped to strengthen our belief that the skills possessed by the best creatives in the digital arena are transferable to the games industry," said Derrick Grand, creative director at Grant Midwinter. "GITG has given us the potential to expand our core services and we're really excited by the opportunity to work with SCEE on Rough Diamond."
We'll have more updates on Grant Midwinter's progress with Sony here and on the official Get In The Game website
