Welcome to Game Republic

Game Republic is an industry-led games network for the Yorkshire and Humber region. As well as being a great place to live and work, this north of England county boasts one of the world's top-performing regions for games development, with such talented companies as Rockstar Leeds, Sumo Digital, Team 17, Tuna and Revolution Software within our borders.

At Game Republic our sole aim is to create more games business for Yorkshire, hosting regular networking events, investing in games projects, supporting companies with PR and marketing, assisting companies travelling to international events and more.

We're also passionate about creating better links between academia and the industry, with past events including "AI & Avatars" in association with the University of Bradford and the hugely successful Student Showcase, which this year took place at Sheffield Hallam University on Tuesday 5th May.

In 2007, Game Republic was fully integrated into Screen Yorkshire, allowing the games sector in the region access to Screen Yorkshire's strategic investment funds. State of Independence conferenceYork Racecourse, 8th April

Game Republic in partnership with GameHorizon are running an international one-day conference - State of Independence - focusing on developer self-publishing.

Speakers already confirmed include Charles Cecil (Revolution), Paul Farley (Tag Games), Patrick O'Lunaigh, (nDreams) and Ed Vaizey, MP (Shadow Minister for Culture) - with more big names to follow.

There has been a resurgence of the independent video games developer over the last two years with developers looking to self-publish via digital distribution routes to break from the traditional console value chain to gain more control of their IP and finances. Indies are asking how can they fund their own content, how to promote and market new content effectively on a small budget, and what are the best business models to maximise revenue.

Date: Thurs 8th April 2010
Location: York, Race course Gymcrack Suite (Ebor stand)

For more information about the conference and to book places, visit http://www.state-of-independence.net/
A Super Early Bird discount starting at £75 is available until 16 March 2010. The event is free to all Game Republic members.
