RED RIDING

Adapted by Toni Grisoni from local author David Peace's cult noir novels, RED RIDING (1974, 1980 and 1983) is an ambitious, dark, and thrilling trilogy of interlinking films set in the dark and paranoid world of 1970s and early 80s Yorkshire at the time of the Ripper murders. The Red Riding trilogy was supported by Screen Yorkshire through its Production Fund.

The feverish crime thrillers dramatise three of the four books in Peace's Red Riding Quartet. Acclaimed film directors Julian Jarrold (Brideshead Revisited, White Teeth) directed 1974, James Marsh (Man on Wire, The King) directed 1980 and Anand Tucker (And When Did You Last See Your Father?, Hillary and Jackie) directed 1983.

The films feature an ensemble cast including Andrew Garfield (returning to C4 after his Bafta-winning performance in Boy A), who plays rookie local crime reporter Eddie Dunford; Rebecca Hall (Woody Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona), who plays young widow Paula Garland; Sean Bean (The Lord of the Rings), who plays local property magnate John Dawson; Paddy Considine (Dead Man's Shoes, The Bourne Ultimatum), who plays Assistant Chief Constable Peter Hunter, Lesley Sharp, who plays his wife Joan Hunter; David Morrissey (The Other Boleyn Girl, Blackpool), who plays Detective Chief Superintendent Maurice Jobson, and Mark Addy (The Full Monty), who plays John Piggott.

Screen Yorkshire invested in RED RIDING through its Production Fund and provided crew and locations support during the shoot.

RED RIDING is a Channel 4 presentation in association with Screen Yorkshire, LipSync Post and Revolution Films. The films were aired on Channel 4 in 2009 and are now available to buy on DVD.
