Exhibition and Education
Educating, informing and developing film audiences benefits our society and our industry. Creating a hunger and passion for screen content enriches lives and creates the audiences and practitioners of the future. Understanding and enjoying film can bring societies together through better cultural understanding and media literacy is vital for young people to understand and navigate their way through today's world. Screen Yorkshire supports both one off participatory education projects and annual film festivals for children, for example, Yorkshire is home to two of the nations premiere children's festivals, Showcomotion in Sheffield and the Leeds Young People's Film Festival. Yorkshire Film Culture
"Equally damaging to any attempts to put independent film-making on the map is the notion that anything that happens in London is national but anything that happens in the regions is "provincial". This attitude, combined with the lack of an integrated national network of production, distribution and exhibition, has hampered the construction of, at the very least, a genuinely plural national film culture."

Sheffield Doc/Fest 2007Best Ever!!
Sheffield Doc/Fest 2007 attracted over 1200 industry delegates from as far away as Japan and Australia. The five day Festival supported by Screen Yorkshire which screened over five days, was the most successful event in its fourteen-year history.
‘The international reputation of the Festival has grown immensely over the last 12 months and the increase in delegates confirms this. The opening night film Joy Division went down a storm, we had two simultaneous screenings just to cope with the crowd. Sheffield and the Yorkshire region have grown to recognize what a great event they have on their doorstep. Our hard work over the last 18 months to grow the Cross Platform business opportunities for Yorkshire is paying off,' says Heather Croall, festival director.
